A view to the future...

My husband and I met a man at a farmer's market who was selling his self-published book. My husband bought it for my little boy... "I just bought you some good Karma" he said jokingly, but I think this man was a view into my near future.
Here are all my works in progress:
1) "Baby Bop" - for ages 0-2 years. It's a rhythmic book about a toddler who plays actively with his toys and you can almost sing along to it! Written & developing sketches from thumbnails.
2) "Maya's Magic Blanket Ride" - for ages 4-8 years. First in a 3 book series, about a little girl who travels the world on a magic blanket. Rewrite stage. Some basic sketches that need further development.
3) "Maya's Underwater Joyride" - for ages 4-8 years. Second in a 3 book series. First draft written, which establishes a skeleton plot and characters. Needs many more rewrites!
4) "Maya's Galactic Goosechase"- just beginning to write first draft...
Wheels are in motion.....

This is my English-only work in progress. I submitted my Bilingual works to two Indian publishers and received one rejection. All Good! Now, I just have to finish the artwork/layout and then the hard part begins - to find a way to publish. Must find a way to prioritise my work....

The Journey Begins Here.

I am beginning this journey as a novice into self-publishing... and while I understand that this little pet-project of mine could be mildly successful or wildly disastrous,  I still have a sliver of hope that lets me wander down this rocky road... O.K, Enough with the metaphors. Here is what I'm trying to do:
THE PROJECT:
1) Set up a venture to self-publish my own bilingual children's books.
2) Write and illustrate these early language learning books for kids who want to learn an Indian language. Kids living in the west who want to learn their own/an Indian language and for kids living in India who want to learn English.
WHY?
As I write this, there are negotiations and connections and acquisitions and mergers being made all over the world where we are asked to learn something about another culture. With technological marvels available to us "laypersons", it seems like a waste not to use these tools to break the language barrier.
And so, I sit here, at my dining room table, conjuring up plans, envisioning the future, and hoping for the best! This is my next baby, born of my own personal experiences - struggling and embarrassed to speak my own language to my family and as a mother, trying to find ways to teach my toddler a way to relate to and like to speak in our language - Tamil.
Here, this blog will give me a place to document how I find my way through this process and hopefully will hold me accountable to myself as a budding "mompreneur"....
WHAT?
'Mogra' simply means jasmine in India. It has an unforgettable scent and is a big part of grand occasions in that country. The logo also is meant to look like a pinwheel. For me, this signifies steps to an early education that is unforgettable and everlasting like the jasmine's scent and it's significance in good beginnings. The pinwheel too for me signifies progress and change as it moves to the changes in wind etc.
